Nurture your mums by watering the soil directly to protect the petals and removing withered flowers regularly. Remember that container plants dehydrate quickly. For hardy varieties, transplant them into your garden now with plenty of water, leaving stems intact for the winter chill.

 

Autumn offers the perfect window for installing trees and shrubs across North Jersey. You can also bury spring bulbs like daffodils and tulips until the first frost; place them pointed-side up at a depth triple their height. Note that daffodils are naturally deer-resistant, unlike tulips.
